Exo-Toa
Hidden deep
beneath the surface of Mata Nui are six powerful suits of armor. Who designed
and built these awesome technological constructs is unknown, nor do the legends
explain why there were concealed for so long. But the reason for their existence
is recorded in the chronicles of the Turaga: should the Bohrok swarms run wild
and bring chaos to Mata Nui, only the Toa clad in this
Exo-Toa
armor can hope to stop them.
The Toa can easily climb inside the Exo-Toa and use its power against Cahdok and
Gahdok. Each suit of armor comes with a claw arm and electro-rocket, and the
built-in Exo-skeleton increases the strength of the Toa by many times. There are
rumors that the Exo-Toa armor is also able to function on its own, with no
wearer, but these have not been confirmed.
Toa
Nuva
When the Toa are exposed to the
strange energies of protodermis, they are transformed into the mighty Toa Nuva!
With new powers, new armor, and new tools, the Toa Nuva believe they are ready
for any threat to their island home.
Lewa Nuva
The Toa Nuva of
Air has grown stronger as a result of his struggles against the Bohrok. His new
air katana can be attached to his body to allow him to glide on wind currents.
Combined with the power of Miru Nuva, he can now fly high over the island,
keeping an eye out for potential threats to the peace of Mata Nui.
Tahu Nuva
Of all the Toa
Nuva, Tahu Nuva most welcomes his new power. Now he feels even more confident
that he can protect Ta-koro from any danger! When trouble threatens, his magma
swords can be joined together to form a lava board that carries him swiftly over
the magma flows. He wears the Hau Nuva, which he uses to protect his people
against any harm.
Gali Nuva
Gali Nuva's aqua
axes can be attached to her feet to serve as scuba fins. Now there is truly
nothing faster or more powerful than her under the water! And she will need that
power to save Ga-koro from the darkness that is on its way. Protector of the
oceans and waterways of the island, her Kaukau Nuva allows her to plunge to the
very bottom of the sea and survive.
Pohatu Nuva
Pohatu Nuva's
climbing claws make it easier than ever for him to scale the rocky peaks near
his village. When joined together, his claws form the legendary Kodan ball.
Using the Great Mask of Speed, Kakama Nuva, he has devoted himself to repairing
the damage done to Po-wahi by the rampaging Bohrok.
Kopaka Nuva
His new power
has, if anything, make Kopaka Nuva even colder and more remote than the mountain
upon which he lives. His ice blade can be split in two to form power ice skates
that let him rip through the ice and snow. He wears Akaku Nuva, using its power
to keep watch on all of Ko-wahi from the top of Mount Ihu.
Onua Nuvu
Mata Nui will
need the wisdom and strength of Onua Nuva more than ever in the months to come.
Now no place on the island is too far or too dangerous for him to reach, for his
quake breakers can be used as high-speed, all-terrain tracks. They can also be
used to carve new passages in the earth. Onua Nuva wears the Pakari Nuva, which
increases his raw strength to amazing levels.
Metru Nui Toa
Toa Metru
The Turaga are the Toa Metru. Or were, in the
past. However, before they were Toa Metru they were Matoran. They were the
protectors of Metru Nui. The bios of the Toa Metru:
Onewa
Pronunciation: oh-NOO-wah
The guardian of Po-Metru. Toa Onewa is firm and
strong-willed, and he has little time for worries about the past or predictions
of the future. His experience at scaling the buildings of Po-Metru makes him one
of the most agile Toa. Like Toa Matau, Toa Onewa tends to act first and ask
questions later, but the two are not close friends (mainly because Toa Onewa has
little sense of humor). Toa Onewa’s strongest trait is his absolute refusal to
consider the possibility of defeat—he will always find a way to win.
Toa Onewa’s tools are twin proto pitons, which he uses
to climb the tall towers of Po-Metru. Onewa wear the Kanohi Komau, the Great
Mask of Mind Control. The Komau allows Onewa to control the minds of others.
Whenua
Pronunciation: wen-NOO-ah
The guardian of Onu-Metru. Toa Whenua has a love for
the history of Metru Nui and wishes to learn all he can about it. He is not as
bold or confident as the other Toa, but his caution often saves others from
harm. He is known for his fairness and good judgment, but is not comfortable
with Toa Nuju or Toa Vakama because of their desire to look into the future.
Toa Whenua’s tools are two earthshock drills, which can
drill through any substance. Whenua wears the Kanohi Ruru, the Great Mask of
Night Vision. The Ruru allows Whenua to see in the dark and through walls. It
can also be used to brighten a dark room.
Nokama
Pronunciation: noh-KAH-mah
Toa Metru of Water and guardian of Ga-Metru, Nokama was
originally a teacher. Although she is now a heroine, she has not lost the habit
of trying to instruct others. This is particularly annoying to Matau, who says
she should listen more and “speak-teach” less. Nokama takes her responsibilities
as a Toa very seriously, and believes they have a duty to the Great Spirit to
meet any challenge. She does sometimes miss her old Matoran friends, though, who
now do not seem to know how to act toward her.
Nokama is wise and extremely resourceful, having once
managed to defeat three Rahkshi single-handedly. She is very good at seeing the
big picture and making connections between seemingly unrelated events. Along
with Onewa, she is the best tactician among the Toa Metru. She could be a strong
leader, but prefers to support Toa Vakama, for she believes in his courage and
the power of his visions.
Nokama wears the Kanohi Rau, Great Mask of Translation,
which allows her to read ancient Matoran dialects and understand spoken
languages, even the language of Rahi. Her Toa tools are twin hydro blades, which
can pull her through the protodermis canals at high speed. They are also strong
enough to shatter solid rock, and channel her power to control water.
Vakama
Pronunciation: vah-KAH-mah
Toa of fire and guardian of Ta-Metru, Vakama was once
one of the city’s top mask makers. His skills were so well-respected that Turaga
Dume personally asked him to create a Mask of Time. Now he has become a Toa
Metru, but he is not always certain he is ready for the role of the hero. At
times he misses his old life in the foundries, crafting masks for others to
wear.
Vakama has always been plagued by strange visions of
the future. Often their meaning is not clear, and it is a “talent” that he has
always hidden from others. It is only later that will discover that those
visions are key to saving the city. He has the wisdom and courage to be a
leader, but is not sure he wants the role. Nokama, however, feels strongly that
Vakama is the best suited to lead the Toa Metru. Vakama gets along with most of
the others well, but he and Onewa often fight.
Toa Vakama wears the Kanohi Huna, the Great Mask of
Concealment. It allows him to turn invisible, although even in that state, he
still casts a shadow. He carries a Kanoka launcher, which can attach to his back
to become a jetpack. Although his disk launcher can channel his elemental fire
power, Vakama often transmits it through his hands.
Matau
Pronunciation: mah-TOW
The guardian of Le-Metru. Toa Matau has a “highflying”
attitude toward life. He is full of fun, impulsive, headstrong, and believes
that he is as smart as Toa Vakama and should be the leader of the Toa. His sense
of humor keeps the Toa smiling in even in the face of danger, but his
recklessness often leads to trouble. Still, his instincts are second to none,
and even those who don’t get along with him admit that his hunches are often
good. He will risk anything to protect Matoran of Le-Metru.
Toa Matau’s tools are twin aero slicers. They can
attach to his back to become wings. Matau wears the Kanohi Mahiki, the Great
Mask of Illusion. The Mahiki allows Matau to cast illusions, and to shapeshift
to a certain extent.
Nuju
Pronunciation: NOO-joo
The guardian of Ko-Metru. To others, Toa Nuju might
seem aloof and unfriendly—his task of guarding the knowledge and memory crystals
of Metru Nui is a lonely one and he has never been skilled at showing his
feelings. But Toa Nuju believes strongly that success comes from working
together and he is willing to respect Toa Vakama’s leadership. Toa Nuju is a
seer with great experience at interpreting omens of the future—and he has little
patience with people like Toa Matau, who only want to think about today.
Toa Nuju’s tools are two crystal spikes, which he uses
to climb the sides of the
Knowledge Towers.
They can also attach to his feet to become snowshoes. Nuju wears the Kanohi
Matatu, the Great Mask of Telekinesis. The Matatu allows Nuju to move objects
with his mind, even objects that are miles away. It also has vision enhancement,
mainly long-distance, allowing Nuju to see what he’s moving.
Lhikan
Pronunciation:
(LEE-khan)
The first Toa
was Lhikan, called Lhii the Surfer in legend on Mata Nui. He was the main
guardian of Metru Nui, and the one who appointed Vakama and Co. the next Toa. He
mainly helped the city when need was dire; perhaps even ran some missions
outside the City of Legends. But, he has been kidnapped by the Dark Hunters (see
below). Also, Lhikan may have come from Metru Nui...or he may not have. We don't
know where he came from—if he came from anywhere at all.
Lhikan wears a yellow Hau; almost all info on his tools
remains unknown.
